Our New Responsive Website

February 20, 2024

We are pleased to present to you a new, modernized Rudolf Steiner Archive. Since assuming responsibility for the Archive in late October 2021, we have replaced nearly the entire website platform since the technology had become outdated and crash-prone. The website is now stable and substantially faster. There has been zero downtime in the past year despite updating nearly 100% of the codebase.

In this update, we have refreshed the website’s appearance and, most importantly, added new technical capabilities. Here are a few highlights:

New display suitable for all devices. We reformatted the website to be responsive to any screen size, scaling to display properly on all devices. The interface expands and contracts to load well on phones and tablets as well as desktops and laptops. Gone are the days of needing to manually resize and move the screen around to find what you’re looking for!

New customized search engine. We developed a brand-new search engine that allows one to search by keyword(s), phrase, or title. The search results may be further refined by category (books, lectures, or articles), dates, and cities. You can also change the length and number of results provided by using simple slide bars. By clicking on highlighted keywords in the search results, you are brought to the exact location the term appears in the text.

New database of all lectures. We built a new database of all of Steiner’s lectures and link to content that is currently available on our site. Access the list by using the link for searching by Volume/GA and selecting a volume. There you will see which documents we have, and which ones remain to be added or translated. We aim to rectify those omissions to compile the full Steiner corpus.

Newsletter Signup Form. Finally, we want to connect with our readers. When we began this venture under the new public charity, Steiner Online Library, we started without a mailing list. If you joined a Rudolf Steiner Archive mailing list in past years, that was with the e.Lib, Inc. and we do not have your email address. Please sign up again to stay informed about significant updates to the Rudolf Steiner Archive, such as the addition of new content.

These improvements have increased our reach to over 6,000 unique visitors per day. As the largest digital library of Steiner’s works in English, our site is a portal for people who prefer digital media, don’t read German, and may not have translations in their native language. The Anthroposophical community regularly links to our website for teaching and study group materials, on personal and professional websites, and on social media.

We hope you enjoy the changes. As always, please let us know if you have suggestions or need help finding materials.

Warm regards,

Chris and Karin Wietrzykowski
